Amsterdam’s Tempest Imperial Stout Coming To The LCBO

Amsterdam Brewing Co. have announced that a limited run of Tempest Imperial Stout will be released on Monday, October 22nd at select LCBO locations.

Previously only available in small quantities at the Amsterdam brewery store, Tempest is described as:

Unique to Ontario, Tempest Imperial Stout is brewed with rye, wheat, oats, roasted barley, dark crystal, marris otter and chocolate malts. Warrior, centennial, and cascade hops provide bittering and aroma in this big malt body beer. Cellared for three months prior to packaging, Tempest has a bracing bitterness that quickly blends with deep malt notes and a slight spiciness from the rye malt. At 100+ IBU, Tempest blends the drinkability and smoothness of a British stout with the aggressive hops and bold flavors of an American example of this style. The warming finish is perfect for our Canadian fall.

This release of Tempest is limited to 13,000 500ml bottles and they will retail for $5.95. Bottles will also be available at Amsterdam’s new brewery store, which is located at 45 Esandar Dr. in Leaside.

Georgian Brewing Company, Ontario’s Newest Craft Brewery

Via Canadian Beer News

OWEN SOUND, ON – The small city of Owen Sound will soon be home to Georgian Brewing, the latest in long series of small breweries to open in Ontario in the last several years.

Named for Georgian Bay, the large off-shoot of Lake Huron that Owen Sound sits on, the brewery is being opened by owner and brewmaster Spencer Wareham in a plaza on County Grey Road 18 just outside of the city. While the exact launch date is dependent on licensing, Wareham hopes to have beer available before Christmas.

Kensington Brewing Co’s Baldwin FishEYE-PA Launch Party

Help the Kensington Brewing Company celebrate the launch of Baldwin FishEYE-PA on Thursday, October 25th at Bar Hop (391 King Street West, Toronto). There will be three different versions of FishEYE available: draught, cask (additional dry hops), and draught run through Randall The Enamel Animal (an inline hop-back used to infuse the beer with hop oils).

At 6.5% ABV and 70 IBU’s, FishEYE-PA is a nod to hop-loving beer enthusiasts. A marriage of 3 types of malt and 4 hop varieties, including an excessive dose of dry hops, meld beautifully to create a complex, hop-forward ale. The aroma is dominated by floral and citrus notes, with a slight tinge of pine tar and sweet, caramel malt. A long, dry finish and lingering bitterness leaves you wanting more.

Initially available on draught, look for this to hit the LCBO in 473mL cans around spring of 2013.
